A visit to the Welsh
Slate Museum in Llanberis will take you back to the bye gone age of slate
mining |
North
Wales has numerous attractions, here are just a few all within a 30 minute
drive from the cottage.
Caernarfon Caernarfon has been receiving visitors since the Roman days. To see what it was like in those days a visit to the Segontium fort above the town is well worthwhile. Caernarfon Castle dominates the town and fine views can be gained from the various ramparts. The Welsh Highland Regiment museum is also found within the Castle walls. If shopping is your thing you’ll enjoy browsing through the side streets off the town square, from antiques to traditional carvings, everything is available. As in most seaside towns all roads lead to the docks, and you soon find yourself faced with a magnificent view of the Menai straights with the Castle in the background. If you fancy a closer look why not try a trip on the Queen of the South from South Quay. Llanberis The village of Llanberis was once the hub of the Welsh slate mining industry, today it is still a lively place due to the number of tourists and walkers attracted to the village at the foot of the highest mountain in England and Wales. A trip to the top of Snowdon can either be undertaken from the village itself or from one of the local footpaths or by taking advantage of the Snowdon mountain railway which journeys to the summit café (summer season only). The village’s heritage isn’t forgotten and the Llanberis slate museum provides an insight into the hard life these villagers lead during the early part of the 20th century. |
